What inspired me to run for Council:

  • Gaps and deficiencies in Metchosin’s governance and operations I observed, investigative conversations and my experience working with other Municipalities.

  • After a number of years attending Council meetings and providing my views and advice on areas that intersected my professional interests and work, I joined an emerging Housing Initiatives Collaborative (HICs).   When the Provincially mandated housing directive was issued, the District did not choose to use a community committee to support public engagement dialogue as recommended by the Healthy Communities Committee,  so we took our own action – which is very Metchosin.

  • For years, when I returned home from travelling to my work around BC in other remote, rural and urban communities, I was always grateful and appreciative of our little slice of heaven in Metchosin. And then I started to pay more attention to changes on the landscape and emerging within our social fabric and thought, "we could do better".

  • Our fiscal cliff - In the past six months, after realizing the enormity of our financial management situation and the looming choices ahead, I felt my experience in financial management, shaping policy, regulations and legislation, facilitation and deep technical knowledge on issues confronting the Metchosin (e.g. housing, agricultural land planning and ALR use, natural resource planning, bylaws) could be valuable.
